New British Abstraction

New British Abstraction features ten works by ten artists: Alia Ahmad, Sarah Cunningham, Li Hei Di, Pam Evelyn, Jadé Fadojutimi, Louise Giovanelli, Rachel Jones, Francesca Mollett, Michaela Yearwood-Dan and Flora Yukhnovich | March 16 - April 16, 2023

Curated by Viahsta Yuan and London-based guest curator Louis Blanc-Francard, New British Abstraction brings these ten artists together, as well as unveils their works to audiences in Vancouver, for the very first time.

Hailing from British art schools in recent years, these ten young female artists are leading the charge internationally in new patterns of abstraction. Although diverse in each of their practices, some even floating between abstraction and figuration, they are united in their desire to rethink how abstraction can be expressed. In the midst of social changes that have swept the country over the last decade, they are less concerned with labels, and more focused on evolving traditions, drawing from and reflecting back the turbulence of our times. Rooted in explorations of colour, nature and desire, these artists push the boundaries – challenging and inspiring new conversations around abstraction and its ability to capture the complexities and emotions of contemporary life.
